How do we make our Naturally Fire-Safe Mattresses meet the UK safety legislation?

In order to make our futon mattresses Naturally Fire-Safe we have to make these in a different way to our other mattresses.

Firstly we make a fire protective inter-liner from Woolguard fabric which is made from 100% wool. Wool is inherently fire-retardant, has no additional chemical treatments added and does not support developing or accelerated combustion. This inter-liner is upholstered over the futon mattress fillings as a fixed cover. The Woolgaurd inter-liner is certified as a Schedule 3 inter-liner under the Furniture (Fire) (Safety) Legislation of 1998 as amended.

Having covered the futon mattress with the wool inter-liner, we then use your choice of fabrics from our Naturally Fire Safe selection. These fabrics are composed from natural fibres (Cotton or Hemp/Cotton) and they are resistant to fire. The outer fabrics do not require any back-coating or additional chemical treatment in order to make the sufficiently fire retardant.

Product Labelling

If you are using your futon sofa bed or futon mattress in a rented property or for holiday accommodation, you may need to be able to demonstrate that it meets the requirements of the Upholstered Furniture Fire Safety Legislation and is labelled accordingly.

Once we have completed your sofa bed a permanent label is sewn into the one end of the mattress to confirm that the mattress complies with the upholstery furniture fire safety legislation with the inclusion of a Schedule 3 inter-liner.
